One-Year Anniversary JQD Happy Hour at MPSA!
In honor of the (almost!) one-year anniversary of the public launch of the Journal of Quantitative Description: Digital Media, we wanted to provide a quick update on the progress we've made so far.
Thanks to all the hard work by our Editorial and Advisory Boards — and especially to our wonderful reviewers! We published twenty-three articles (fifteen of which were part of our launch) in 2021 and have already published eight articles in 2022. That's a total of sixteen manuscripts for which the total turnaround time from initial LOI to full publication is under a year.
We have a strong pipeline of articles under review and Letters of Inquiry from which we have invited full manuscript submissions. This process is working as we had hoped: the editorial team is able to provide pre-submission feedback to prospective authors, ensuring the good fit and basic validity of all manuscripts we agree to send out for review. By respecting the valuable time of our reviewers, we are able to ensure a high acceptance and completion rate for the reviews and thus a prompt and efficient review process.
We are pleased to report a high level of diversity in what we have published:
- Author gender: 70% mixed-gender teams; 20% all-male; 10% all-female
- 27% of papers use data from multiple countries; 14% of papers use data from four or more countries
- Roughly even split between methods involving trace data and surveys
We look forward to continuing to publish more excellent research in the years to come; thanks to everyone who has made that possible!
The timing of this anniversary works out such that we invite anyone attenting the upcoming Midwestern Political Science Association conference in Chicago to join us for a happy hour! And if you can't make this one, we hope to see you around soon (ICA in Paris? APSA in Montreal?). Details:
